Growth and Diversification of the Hospital - 2000 onwards
Due to the efficiency of the hospital and the direction provided by the founders, GREMALTES was in a position to offer other medical services to the general public. The decision to offer diverse medical facilities to the public was taken as a result of reduced prevalence of leprosy. It was decided to leverage the expertise gained in the field of leprosy treatment into other feasible areas.
We began with a dermatology services as this was a natural off shoot from leprosy treatment. The corporation of Chennai allocated 9 divisions in Zone VIII for Tuberculosis detection and treatment. Our foray into ophthalmology is due to the generosity of the Christoffel Blinden Mission who provided us with world class infrastructure.
The hospital now runs community health centers and provides services in the areas of dermatology, ophthalmology, dentistry, orthopedics, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, hypertension and sexually transmitted infections.
